Recumbent Bike Overview

Recumbent bikes are a unique ergonomic style bike where the rider is literally relaxed into a bucket style seat. The pedals are located in front of the rider making the cycling action horizontal instead of the traditional vertical pedaling action. The handle bars are usually located in one of two positions; either beside the riders thighs or in front of the riders torso much like sissy handlebars. Some recumbent bikes are designed solely for one purpose and that is to aid paraplegic riders, they achieve this by shifting the pedaling mechanism from the feet to the hands. The relaxed but infinitely more supportive riding position allows for safe pedaling using the hands.
