Snug As a Bug

Snug as a Bug accomodation

If we can give you three words of advice; Get In Early.

Bright and Mt Beauty are superb tourist destinations for good reason, and it seems that there's very rarely a 'down time' when it comes to tourism in the area. That said, there is most definitely an extra busy period of year, namely during school holidays and the Winter season. So don't leave your accommodation to last minute. Which is precisely what we did and as a result, we couldn't get into the terrific recommendations that had been suggested to us.

So don't make the same mistake that we did and hopefully you can enjoy staying at whichever accommodation best suits your needs and budget.

Luxe: The Kilnhouses

Why mince words or wax lyrical when you can give your accommodation venue a name that is pretty much going to sum up exactly what visitors can expect?

Accommodation Kilnhouses riding 1

Staying at the kilnhouses is a unique experience where contemporary luxury and design is combined with the stunning beauty of the ovens valley landscape. Situated near Porepunkah, at the base of Mount Buffalo, close to the river, the kilnhouses are located amidst a working Angus cattle stud – Alpine Angus. The three houses – each in a separate part of the farm – all have spectacular views of Mount Buffalo, Feathertop and Bogong, with grape vines and sleek black angus cattle in the foreground.

Each of the houses fits naturally within the local rural environment. The tobacco kiln shapes of Cavedon’s and Chinaman’s are seen dotted throughout the Ovens Valley. Concrete sheds, and more recently iron sheds, were used for sorting the tobacco and the imposing ‘Sorting Shed’ kilnhouse draws from the original kiln and sorting shed on the farm.

Each house was developed and designed by Sally Draper (architect), and Russell Grainger (interior designer). Local builder Craig Martin built all three houses.

So… the experience is a unique and contemporary one – combining the beauty of the north east valley and its vistas of mountains, grapes, trees and glorious weather with uniquely modern accommodation.

Within each of the kilnhouses, huge glass windows frame views of trees, mountains, nearby cattle and a deep blue sky. You live within stunning architectural structures and spaces complemented by elegant and comfortable interior furniture and outside a Tuscan like environment – except for the kookaburras.

The outdoor beauty combined with the elegant and simple houses …calms…restores …and inspires.

In the winter, riders can return to open fires and in the sorting shed —a sauna

In the summer, sitting outside on the verandah with views across the mountains are the ideal end to a bike ride.
