Veloroos RAAM - Day 1

June 22, 2015

The Veloroos leave Oceanside California on the West Coast of the United States, riding through the gate cheering in anticipation for the adventure ahead. They are beginning one of the most challenging endurance events in the world, the Race Across America: a 4,828km time trial from west to east.

On the first leg, Julie-Anne Hazlett, Natasha Horne, Sarah Matthews and Nicole Stanners - known collectively as the Veloroos - make good time through California and into the stifling deserts of Arizona. They get a boost to team morale as they pass American team Sorella taking an early lead which they hope to hold on to over the next six days.

The heat sets in and the Veloroos get their first taste of the challenge ahead. The elements are ready to test their mettle. They've felt the heat...the wind, rain and desert dust are surely yet to come...
