Controlling Your Bike – All About Cables
The primary purpose of bike cables is to control your bike – try to assemble a bike without cabling and danger on wheels would take on a whole new meaning. These days bikes have two kinds of cabling – hydraulic liquid or mechanical wire cabling. The latter of course is most common and gives you efficient control with relative longevity. Hydraulic cabling is however, more unlikely to fail. Just bear in mind that if hydraulic liquid gets too hot, its integrity can be compromised. This basically increases the chance of brake/gear failure, which of course would be a recipe for disaster. It is a wise move to take your bike to a bike mechanic every now and again, just so they can give things such as the bike’s cabling a quality once-over and make sure everything is tracking well.
