Kids Bikes Overview
Kids bikes come in a range of sizes and shapes though generally speaking they are usually based off BMX or Mountain Bike frame designs. The reason for this is that they are strong, all purpose and easy to use bikes, features that are desirable to beginner riders. Kids bike sizes are measured from the size of their wheel, a 20" wheel is a size 20 kids bike. For a guide on what size bike is suitable for a certain age child "click here."
Smaller sized kids bikes often come fitted with training wheels, you can also purchase training wheels and fit them to a bike if necessary.
The most important thing to keep in mind when looking to purchase a kids bike is making sure that the bike is a proper fit. If the child cant reach the ground or the handlebars to safely operate controls, then the likely hood of the child having a bad experience or being injured increases exponentially. Other than that everything comes down to personal preference.
