Bunch Up

July 01, 2015

A pro cyclist since 2003 and a member of the Orica-GreenEDGE team since day one, Brett Lancaster is in a pretty good position to share with us advice around riding in a bunch.

The Orica-GreenEDGE training bunches are usually somewhere between six to eight riders strong, with cyclists taking turns at the front for no more than ten minutes, or even sometimes five.

His biggest advice around bunch riding etiquette is to respect others.

As Brett points out - we're pretty much all out there doing the same thing and a lot of us have family or kids, so everyone just wants to stay safe and come home at the end of the day.

Those who are new to bunch riding need to watch out for wheels, keep in mind wind and how that might influence the riding, and be mindful of the traffic around you. If you want to focus purely on the race then get a licence and do it in controlled situations - not out on the road.
