Orica-AIS cyclist Chloe McConville talks to BikeExchange about getting nutrition right. Relatively new to the Orica-AIS team, Chloe knows just how crucial it is to nail food and hydration – especially in a race scenario.
Just a few years ago at the Oceania Championships Chloe was well-placed to take out the Road title and with it automatic selection into the Commonwealth Games. Mistakes in her nutrition plan led to massive cramping just 10km from the finish, dashing Chloe’s hopes of taking out the title and representing her country.

Here Chloe talks us through the need to focus on hydration, particularly when racing or training in warmer conditions (Chloe was filmed during the Orica-AIS training camp in Tuscany when the Mercury had well and truly started to rise). She talks about replacing electrolytes lost during excessive sweating as well as consuming an average 40-50g of carbohydrates per hour during exercise.
Chloe’s comments are not a recommendation for your own nutrition plan – make a booking with a Sports Dietitians Australia accredited dietitian to devise a plan that is best for you.
