The Jack of All Trades - Meet a Soigneur

January 22, 2015

If you thought all a Soigneur did was give the team massages, then you'd be seriously undermining their job. There's plenty to keep them flat out!

We caught up with Orica-GreenEDGE Soigneur Danny Clarke (younger brother to team rider Simon) to find out just what goes on behind the scenes, and just how crucial a role this is. If you go by the definition online, a Soigneur is "a person who gives training, massage, and other assistance to a team, especially during a race."

We find out that his job entails anything from immediate First Aid on calf punctures, making sure brekkie is hitting the dietary mark, massaging muscles after a grueling day in the saddle, and plenty more.

It's the kind of job made for someone who's passionate about cycling, wellbeing and the chance to get among it with Australia's very best.
