GT Karakoram 2.0 Bike Review

Are you looking for a Mountain Bike?

Do you want a mountain bike from a reputable company with an established history in mountain biking?

Can you get all this for under $1000?

If your answer is yes, then look no further! GT’s Karakoram 29er 2.0 is all of the above and more. The Karakoram 29er 2.0 features a stiff aluminium frame thanks to GT’s patented Triple Triangle Design. The geometry is perfect for entry level and intermediate riders; the bike has a relaxed head angle, inspiring confidence when descending, and has a longish top tube, giving the bike a very comfortable and balanced ride. The integrated headset allows the use of a low handlebar position, enabling the rider to tailor the front end to their liking.

The bike comes fitted with Maxxis Aspen 29x2.10 tyres, these really do hold up well in all conditions except for the muddiest, and really help get the bike up to speed quickly thanks to their low profile and low rolling resistance. The wheels are made up of All Terra hubs and are laced to Alex TD19 rims using stainless spokes, making for a durable wheel set on a Mountain Bike at this price point.

The rest of the bits and bobs on the bike are a mix of GT and All Terra; including the bars, stem, seat post, saddle, seat clamp, grips and pedals; all doing their job very well.

The GT Karakoram 2.0 is a well spec’d Mountain Bike at $999, with the frame being the highlight in the overall package. Matched with Shimano and Rockshox components and big 29er wheels that will roll over most obstacles with ease, the GT, with its well-known wing graphics on the down tube, will have you flying off into the bush with a huge smile on your face in no time!
