Top Cycling Events - This Season's Bucket List

Bike events have taken off in the past few years; you name the type of riding and there’s no doubt myriad events for it. Here’s our top four to make it to the bike bucket list for 2014/15. Happy riding!

1/ Whaka100

What: Tough solo race through some of the best single-track trails in the world
When: 25th October 2014
Where: Whakarewarewa Forest trails, Redwoods Rotorua

2/ Motatapu Mountain Bike

What: A MTB challenge set in the spectacular southern high country of New Zealand, there are many rivers to cross, hills to climb and a few steep descents thrown into the mix.
When: 7th March 2015
Where: Wanaka & Arrowtown

3/ Moon Ride

What: Teams ride the 9km circuit and complete as many laps as they can within the time frame of their event. Tents, campervans and caravans pop up in the campsites through which riders wind their way each lap, creating an electric atmosphere and an unbelievable experience.
When: 20th and 21st of March 15
Where: Whakarewarewa Forest trails, Redwoods Rotorua

4/ Naseby 12 Hour MTB Challenge

What: Riders follow an 11.5km course (taking approximately 30 – 40 minutes a circuit), comprising about 15% water and fire break routes, 10% through the Large View Motor Camp site and the remaining course on single tracks. Many a rider gets inspired to dress up – so bring along your favourite costume!
When: Last weekend of Daylight’s Savings
Where: Nasbey, Central Otago

5/ Urge Three Peaks

What: An enduro MTB event, organised by the Mountain Bike Otago club, and spearheaded by life member Kashi Leuchs. This is a full faced action packed trail affair offering 90% downhill to those taking part. When: 5th to 7th December 14
