Media and Communications Officer Adam introduces one of two 'My Bike' submissions. First up, we check out his Trek Speed Concept 7.8.
Back in 2012 I had a number of friends competing in the inaugural Ironman Melbourne event. To get into the spirit I went down to the Ironman Expo and spent the next hour in the Trek stand drooling over this bike. The Ironman seed was planted that day as Trek was running a promo for the 2013 event whereby if you bought a bike during the week of the Ironman, you received a guaranteed spot in the 2013 edition. As fate would have it, I would be on a plane when the entries for the 2013 event opened and would have been unable to enter.
After watching my mates finish the monumental event that is Ironman, I promptly bought this bike and entered Ironman Melbourne 2013. My triathlon career is on hold at the moment but the Speed Concept 7.8 still gets a run during summer and local club time trial events.
The Speed Concept 7.8 has SRAM Force groupset, Bontrager training wheels, Fizik saddle and Look Keo Blade pedals. The bike is largely untouched since its original purchase but I will put some Zipp 808's with S-Works 24mm tyres on for racing.
